Dan Wheldon, IndyCar Driver
As you may be aware, former Panther Racing IndyCar driver Dan Wheldon, worked with the National Guard Foundation and served as a spokesperson for the ChalleNGe Program,
passed away in the accident that occurred during the final IndyCar race in Las Vegas last Sunday. Over the past few years, Dan developed a strong relationship with one of our cadets, Wesley Jones, who graduated from the Ft. Gordon program in Georgia.
TYA All-Cycle Reunion 2011

When Thunderbird Youth Academy cadets Anthony Rogers of Chouteau and Chaston Adams of Broken Arrow went on their job shadowing ride, they had no idea what was in store for them. A day with the Pryor Animal control quickly became a day neither cadets will soon forget.

I just want to say thank you to staff that came out in support of the cadets at the “windiest” track meet ever. Despite the wind it was great fun and the cadets had a blast competing against one another.
Thank you to Mr. Alexander for facilitating this event. It was a collaborative effort with all TYA department staff members to announce, time, take pictures, cheer, and record each event. TYA staff Rocks!

Kohl's Cares
In celebration of Kohl's Cares 10th anniversary, they're donating $500,000 each to 20 schools with the most votes for a total of $10 million.
Proposed Project
TYA is a program for youth at risk and need to be able to adequately develop cadet's minds and bodies. The campus is on the grounds of a former state orphanage and the buildings are 40 to 110 years old. We are in need of modern classroom space and recreational equipment such as a track and low ropes course or confidence building courses.

Cradling his machine gun just moments before, Spc. Mark Harding's arms suddenly found themselves called to a higher duty — holding a dying friend.
On Feb. 24, 2008, Harding and Spc. Micheal Phillips were riding in a convoy near Baghdad, Iraq, when Phillips' Humvee, directly in front of Harding's, hit a roadside bomb.

Graduation Placement
Declaring placement choices is a task that confronts ChalleNGe cadets each cycle. Exploring the broad categories of education, employment, and military service the Counseling Department offers information, guest speakers, field trips, educational curriculum, and computer-based career training. Additionally, cadets that qualify will be placed in job shadowing locations and all cadets will prepare personal resumes and participate in a mock job interview.
2010 US Census
2010 US Census at TYA
TYA will be conducting Census Surveys in April 2010 for all cadets in accordance with the US Census Bureau 2010 program. Per the instructions from the US Census, cadets are to be counted at TYA as this is their official residence on April 1, 2010. Parents/guardians of cadets should not include them on their US Census report that they complete at home.

Four Class 33 graduates attend the 5th Annual ChalleNGe Champions Gala in Washington, D.C. on 23-Feb. Mr. Ritchie, Ms. Cale and Ms. Zetina accompanied the graduates. All four graduates had never flown or visited D.C. before.
